ADHD Testing in Fishers, IN
Understand what's really behind the forgetfulness, the meltdowns over homework, or the "can't sit still," and what will actually help.
Short waits, not months: consult calls within days · intake typically about 2 weeks out · book testing within weeks. Many major hospital systems have much longer waits. See current availability.
Attention challenges look different in every child. One is always moving, another daydreams through math, a third works twice as hard to keep up.
At Hive Child Development, Dr. Kelsey Shively, PhD, HSPP, looks beyond a quick checklist to give you a clear answer and a plan built for your child. We serve families in Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville, and greater Indianapolis.

Signs it may be time for an ADHD evaluation
Trouble paying attention, finishing tasks, or following multi-step directions
Often losing things, forgetting assignments, or making careless mistakes
Difficulty sitting still, waiting a turn, or not blurting out answers
Strong emotions, frustration, or impulsivity that seem out of step with age
Teacher concerns about focus, organization, or behavior
Homework battles, or grades that don't reflect how bright your child is
Anxiety, learning disabilities, language differences, sleep problems, or autism can also affect attention, and they often occur together. A comprehensive evaluation untangles the picture.
A comprehensive ADHD evaluation, not just a rating scale
A quick screening at the doctor's office is a helpful first step. A comprehensive evaluation goes further and may include:
Intake visit (60–90 minutes, in person or online) to review history, concerns, and goals
Conners Continuous Performance Tests: computerized tasks (K-CPT 2 for younger children, CPT 3 for older kids and teens) measuring inattention, impulsivity, sustained attention, and vigilance
Parent and teacher rating scales on attention, hyperactivity, behavior, and emotions
Executive functioning assessment: planning, organization, self-regulation, and working memory
Cognitive (IQ) and academic achievement testing as needed (e.g., WISC-V, WIAT-4) to check for co-occurring learning disabilities or giftedness
Screening for anxiety, mood, and behavior concerns that can mimic or accompany ADHD
A comprehensive written report with a diagnostic impression and practical recommendations for home and school
A 60-minute feedback session, in person or online
What you'll walk away with
A clear answer on whether your child meets criteria for ADHD (and which presentation), or what else may explain the concerns
A picture of your child's strengths, not just challenges
Specific, individualized recommendations for home, school, and other providers
A report you can share with your pediatrician (who can discuss treatment options) and your child's school, if you choose

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between ADHD screening at the pediatrician and an evaluation at Hive?
A pediatrician screening uses brief questionnaires, a helpful first step. A comprehensive evaluation adds direct testing of attention, executive functioning, cognitive skills, and academics, plus home and school input. That confirms the diagnosis and rules out or identifies look-alike conditions. With your written permission, we'll share results with your pediatrician.
What age can a child be tested for ADHD?
Young children through teens. Attention tests exist for preschoolers, but for very young children we look closely at overall development. ADHD evaluations usually happen once a child is in preschool or school, so teacher input can be included.
Do I need a referral from my pediatrician?
No. You can contact us directly. If your pediatrician suggested an evaluation, we'll gladly coordinate with them once you sign a release.
Do you take insurance?
No, but you can pay with a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA). Some insurers reimburse for evaluations, and we can provide a superbill. Some plans require prior authorization, and an insurer may not consider a clinically relevant evaluation medically necessary.
Does Hive prescribe ADHD medication?
No. Psychologists don't prescribe. Your report can go to your child's pediatrician or prescriber, who can discuss whether medication is appropriate.
Should my child take their ADHD medication on testing day?
Follow your prescriber's guidance about medication on testing day. Hive does not provide medication advice.
Will teachers be involved?
Often, yes. Teacher forms show how your child functions at school. With permission, we may also talk with teachers or recommend a school observation.
Can the evaluation help my child get a 504 plan or IEP?
Your report can inform your school's evaluation and give the case conference committee useful information. Schools make their own eligibility decisions, and Hive doesn't write IEPs, but we're eager to collaborate. Read about IEPs vs. 504 plans.
How long does testing take?
One to several hours, depending on age and needs. We try to finish in one session but may schedule more.
