IQ & Gifted Testing for Children in Fishers
Understand how your child thinks, learns, and solves problems, and how to help them thrive.
Short waits, not months: consult calls within days · intake typically about 2 weeks out · book testing within weeks. Many major hospital systems have much longer waits. See current availability.
Maybe your child reads years ahead, asks questions you can't answer, or seems bored at school. Or they're clearly bright, but something isn't clicking.
IQ testing gives an objective picture of cognitive strengths and support needs. Dr. Kelsey Shively, PhD, HSPP, provides IQ and gifted testing in Fishers for families from Carmel, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville, and greater Indianapolis.

Why families seek IQ testing
Exploring giftedness: understanding advanced abilities and keeping your child challenged
Educational planning: choosing the right school setting, enrichment, or acceleration
Twice-exceptional (2e) children: bright kids who also have ADHD, autism, anxiety, or a learning disability, whose strengths can hide their challenges (and vice versa)
Understanding a learning gap: when grades don't match how capable your child seems
Curiosity and peace of mind: you don't need a "concern" to want to understand your child better
What IQ testing measures
We use the most widely used, well-researched intelligence tests for children:
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 5th Edition (WISC-V) for school-age children: verbal comprehension, visual-spatial ability, working memory, fluid reasoning, and processing speed
Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence, 4th Edition (WPPSI-IV) for preschoolers and young children
The profile across these areas often says more than one number: it shows how your child learns best. We can add achievement (WIAT-4), memory, or executive functioning measures, so choose a targeted IQ assessment or a fuller evaluation.
What your child will do
IQ testing feels like brain teasers, puzzles, and memory games, some verbal, some visual. Items start easy and get harder, and nobody gets everything right.
IQ testing alone generally takes about an hour, depending on your child's age and need for breaks. Our testing room is relaxed and supportive. Read our parent guide: What Is IQ Testing?
A note on school gifted programs
Each Indiana district identifies students for its own high-ability programs, and policies on outside testing vary. Planning to use private results for placement? Check with your district's high-ability coordinator first.
Whatever the school decides, private testing helps you understand your child and plan their education. Hive also offers admissions testing for private schools.

Frequently asked questions
What age can my child have IQ testing?
Preschool through adolescence: the WPPSI-IV for preschoolers and young children, the WISC-V for school-age kids and teens. Unsure about timing? A free consult can help.
How should my child prepare?
A good night's sleep and a healthy meal help. Tell them the activities show how they think and solve problems. It isn't a school test, and they can't pass or fail.
Is IQ testing biased?
Modern IQ tests are designed to minimize cultural and language bias, and we interpret results in light of your child's background, history, and approach to the tasks.
Will the results be shared with my child's school?
Only if you choose. Results are confidential, and the final report is your private property.
Can IQ testing identify learning disabilities or ADHD?
Not on its own, but it's an important piece. Combined with achievement, attention, and other testing, it helps identify learning disabilities and twice-exceptional profiles. See learning disability testing.
Do I need a referral from my pediatrician?
No. You can contact us directly. If your pediatrician suggested an evaluation, we'll gladly coordinate with them once you sign a release.
Do you take insurance?
No, but you can pay with a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA). Some insurers reimburse for evaluations, and we can provide a superbill. Some plans require prior authorization, and an insurer may not consider a clinically relevant evaluation medically necessary.
